PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

CONSULTANT, M. G. Miles and Company, Inc.  Provide a variety of transitional services to Prisoners Aid’s new executive director and Agency, including but not limited to proposal writing, contract compliance, and shadowing the day-to-day operations to make sure that the Agency remains in good standing.  Available for employment with other agencies and businesses to provide any and all services for which I am qualified.

 

1996 to 2004

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, Prisoners Aid Association of Maryland, Inc. 2000 North Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD 21218.  Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Agency; write proposals for funding; implement contract/grant awards; report program accomplishments; keep the Board of Directors informed of Agency issues, progress, growth and development; ensure Agency’s stability through sound and progressive leadership.

 

1995 to 1996

DIRECTOR HUMAN RESOURCES, Woodbourne Center, 1301 Woodbourne Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21239.  Directly responsible for the development and implementation of all HR functions, including employment, benefits, payroll, and staff development.

 

1993 to 1994         

MANAGER, National Education Association, 1201 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC.  On assignment.  Revised classification manual to conform to the new classification system which I developed and implemented.  Retired 8/6/94

 

1992 to 1993

CONSULTANT, National Rainbow Coalition, 1700 K Street, NW, Washington, DC.    On one-year assignment from the National Education Association to the National Rainbow Coalition to develop and implement needed personnel policies, procedures, and practices; to improve organizational and operational efficiency; to assist with office automation; to provide assistance to the voter education and registration drive.

1978 to 1992

EMPLOYMENT MANAGER, National Education Association, 1201-16th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036 (Other titles during this period included Assistant Manager and Personnel Specialist.  Promoted to Employment Manager in 1986.)  Directly responsible for all aspects of employment including, but not limited to, recruiting, interviewing, selecting, testing and placing applicants; classification of all positions; developing, implementing and monitoring affirmative action; application of relevant employment laws and regulations.  Participated in labor relations, arbitrations, mediations and grievance activities. 

                                               

OTHER PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC EXPERIENCE

 

1978 to 1994

CONSULTANT.  Provided consultant services to several organizations, e.g., Citizenship Education Fund, the National YWCA of the United States and the American Association for Health, Physical Education Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD).

 

Presented workshops on Interviewing for the Prince George's County Women's Commission; on career goals for Bowie State College; on recruitment and interviewing for the Arkansas Education Association; on PL94-142 for the Louisiana Education Association.

 

2000 to present

APPOINTMENTS Governor Parris Glendening appointment to the Amusement Ride and Safety Board for four-year term, and the Council for Employment of Ex-Offenders for three-year term.

CITY COUNCILWOMAN for the City of Mt. Rainier, Maryland.  Elected to three two-year terms by constituents.  Conducted affairs of the City in a cost-effective and responsible manner.  Work includes developing City ordinances and the City's budget; responding to constituents; representing the City at meetings and hearings; writing proposals; letting contracts; implementing policies and procedures; recruiting, interviewing and hiring staff including police officers; carrying out other duties and responsibilities as necessary to ensure maximum use of City funds, and the most effective and efficient operation of the City.

 

1984 to 1988

Elected member of the Prince George's County Democratic Central Committee.  Actively involved in the work of the Democratic Party in Prince George's County. 

 

June 1994

Recognized as one of the outstanding women in Prince George's County, and profiled in "Women of Achievement in Prince George's County History."

 

EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT

 

Weinberg Fellows Leadership Program 2002.  Completed more than 128 hours of intense management training from Loyola College, Towson State College, Morgan University, Coppin and several other institutions of higher learning provided through the Weinberg Foundation.

 

Howard University, American Management Association, Management Certificate Program.  Completed six advance management classes for certificate in management.

 

Antioch School of Law -- Master's Program.  Completed course work and passed comprehensive examination for degree in labor law and equal employment.  Antioch went out of business.

 

Howard University School of Education -- Master's Program.  Completed course work and passed comprehensive examination for degree in student personnel administration.

 

St. Augustine's College -- Bachelor's Program.  Degree in History and Government with minor in political science.

 

Seminars and workshops -- Numerous seminars and workshops in human resources to keep abreast of changes in human resources.  Appropriate certificates awarded.
